How to Write an Aerial Performance Introduction

Aerial jade split on outdoor aerial rig at Farmer's Market in Brandon, SD

You are getting ready for a performance or to apply for a festival or competition, but they are asking you for an introduction for your act. We know it can be difficult to talk about yourself or highlight what makes you or your performance unique. That's why we put a quick guide together for writing your next aerial performance introduction. A similar structure can also be used when writing your bio.

Follow the steps below to write your aerial performance intro:

1. Introduce Yourself

Begin by introducing yourself clearly and concisely. Mention your name (either full name or performer name) and any relevant credentials or experience.

Example:

Introducing our next performer, Katie Critzer, also known as Katie in the Sky. Katie is the co-owner of South Dakota Aerial & Arts and Head Silks Coach. Katie has a background in gymnastics, has over seven years of experience in aerial arts, and has been coaching aerial silks for over five years

2. Highlight Your Achievements

Share some key highlights of your aerial career or any notable accomplishments in the aerial arts. This may be the number of showcases you have been in, any awards won in competitions, or accolades from the gym. This helps build credibility and excitement among the audience.

Example:

Katie has garnered multiple awards for her aerial performances, including Best Variety Act for aerial doubles, 1st place in Aerial Silks and Hammock at the Black Hills Aerial Cup, and one 1st place and two 2nd place awards in All-Star Aerial Silks at Aerialympics and Aerial Star. She was recognized in Sioux Falls' 2023 30 Under 30.

3. Mention Your Performance Theme or Style

Briefly describe the theme or style of your performance, including the name of the song you are performing to and the name of the apparatus. This gives the audience a preview of what to expect and can pique their interest.

Example:

Tonight Katie will be performing a solo on her favorite apparatus - aerial silks. In this piece, she will showcase her power through dynamic moves and will express her gratitude for how free and empowered founding and building South Dakota Aerial & Arts has made her feel. This performance explores loss, freedom, and gratitude to be able to explore and be her authentic self. She will be performing to the song "I'm Free" by Tones and I.

4. Fun Facts/Add-Ons (Optional)

Have anything quirky or interesting about you that you want the audience to know, or that they might find interesting. This may include your career outside of aerial, information about your family, special interests, or hidden talents.

Example:

When Katie is not at the studio, she is cuddling her three small dogs - Ric, Kita, and Penny or likely eating Shahi Palace with her husband Sam who is a psychiatry resident at Avera.

5. Express Gratitude (Optional)

Show appreciation to the audience for their presence and support. This creates a warm connection and sets a positive tone for your performance.

Example:

Before we begin, Katie would like to express her sincere gratitude to each of you for joining tonight's show. Your support is deeply valued, and she is thrilled to share her passion for aerial arts with all of you.

Closing Notes:

We hope this outline provided you with the tools to write your next introduction for your upcoming aerial performance. We always recommend using Chat GPT or another AI tool if you get writer's block or are struggling to compose your thoughts. Additionally, this example is fairly all-encompassing. If you don't have as many accolades or want to leave bits of personal information out - that is not a problem at all. Your intro is your time to let the MC and audience know a bit about you, so be creative, don't stress too much, and enjoy your performance!
